Xavier King

The designer

BEYOND SPACE was incepted in 2011 by King while attending Pickering High School. The brand started as an expression of "a metaphor for life" and provoking graphics printed on T-shirts. The young creative created his first t-shirt to sponsor the school's benefit concert, which quickly helped the brand come to life. After graduating, he was accepted into business and advertising university programs in the US under full
scholarship. During his academic studies in New Rochelle, NY in 2015, King decided to transform his design career by learning sewing basics, creative direction, and graphic design. He became immersed in the NYC fashion scene by volunteering at NYFW events,
connecting with models and art directors, and expanding his professional network. In May 2015, he created his first cut and sew line showcased at IONA College's first
fashion show in NYFW. “New York was my time to explore and develop my eye for fashion and my niche of what kind of business I wanted”, King recalls. After
working for several boutiques and fashion entrepreneurs in NYC, King moved back to Canada and began production, sourcing, and manufacturing for his own apparel and clothing business.

King launched his first collection for BEYOND SPACE for F/W 2016 shortly after his return to Toronto. BEYOND SPACE quickly accelerated in 2017 and accomplished several brand activations and fashion shows in Toronto using an avant-garde aesthetic and style, and guerrilla marketing tactics. Many local influencers and artists donned the work such as JustJohn (@justjohnforrreal), Dom Dias (@domdias), Boi1da (@boi1da), AceAv (@acegxd), Fae Sapienta (@fae.sapienta), TyriqueorDie (@tyriqueordie), and Sean Leon (@seanleon). The wardrobe has been featured in local short film productions out of Toronto. BEYOND SPACE has successfully hosted over 4 pop-ups experiences in Toronto and New York City. King has since launched over 14 collections to date. The brand was featured in the Toronto Star in February 2021 for Black-owned brands, has collaborated with local designer store U3 x Mirari, recently secured a partnership and showcase with SID LEE Canada for the Good Friends Market, and a partnership with Arc'teryx Canada, and is looking forward to globalized growth and brand presence.
